B04 Dedicated edge zone characteristics for pultruded fibre-reinforced polymer and ceramic profiles
Summary
The DediGrad subproject B04 is dedicated to the development of pultruded fibre-reinforced profiles with deliberately adjustable edge-zone characteristics and locally differentiated fibre and matrix architectures. At its core is the design of an extrusion-based pultrusion process that enables defined transition regions and edge-near functional zones. To this end, infiltration compounds are developed, elementary governing mechanisms are clarified experimentally, and process simulations are combined with material- and structure-related investigations. The objective is to create semi-finished products that allow optimised load transfer in hybrid components and can be used purposefully in subsequent integration and modification processes.
001 Objectives

Fuctional Edge-Zone Design

  • Development of profiles with graded matrix and fibre architecture as well as adapted edge-zone characteristics
  • Further development and control of an extrusion-based pultrusion process
  • Clarification of elementary process mechanisms, such as filtration effects
  • Subsequent thermal modification of the profiles
  • Provision of a basis for hybrid components with optimised load transfer
002 Scientific Questions

Pultrusion-Induced Grading

  • How should the pultrusion process be designed to produce profiles with dedicated edge zones?
  • Which infiltration compounds meet the requirements of both the pultrusion process and the thermal modification process?
  • How are the elementary governing mechanisms influenced during production?
  • How can the pultrusion process be simulated and controlled in order to achieve an optimal transition zone between the substructures?
