Future Technologies Across Borders 2025
In conversation at the “Future Technologies Across Borders 2025” conference in Wrocław (from left): Prof. Piotr Młynarz, Vice-Rector for Organization and Infrastructure at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Dr Andreas Handschuh, Head of the Saxon State Chancellery, Prof. Dr Lothar Kroll, spokesperson of TRR 402 DediGrad and head of the Chair of Lightweight Structures and Plastics Processing at Chemnitz University of Technology, and Dr Stephan Meyer, District Administrator of the district of Görlitz.

Conference in Wrocław strengthens exchange on lightweight design, sustainable production and circular economy

On 10 and 11 April 2025, the Polish-German Conference “Future Technologies Across Borders 2025” took place in Wrocław, Poland. More than 180 representatives from science, industry and politics came together to discuss key topics for the future, including sustainable production, digitalisation, medical technology, lightweight design and circular economy.

The conference offered important points of connection for the research topics of TRR 402 DediGrad. The research consortium focuses on intelligent production technologies for lightweight polymer structures with load-dedicated 3D grading of the reinforcement architecture. In this context, DediGrad addresses central questions that were also discussed at the Polish-German conference: how can new manufacturing technologies, resource-efficient lightweight structures and circular material concepts be more closely connected?

The conference was organised by the MERGE research cluster at Chemnitz University of Technology, Circular MTC e. V., Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the industry partner Dopak Sp. z o.o. As coordinator of the MERGE research cluster, Prof. Dr Lothar Kroll, spokesperson of TRR 402 DediGrad, was actively involved in the conference.

In specialist presentations and panels, international experts discussed digital manufacturing processes, advanced lightweight solutions, hydrogen technologies and innovative approaches in medical technology, among other topics. The event highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration for the development of sustainable technologies and new innovation projects in Europe.

For TRR 402 DediGrad, the exchange in Wrocław underlines the relevance of international networks and interdisciplinary cooperation. In particular, the interfaces between lightweight design, sustainable production, digitalisation and circular economy are central reference points for the further development of intelligent production technologies and graded polymer structures.
