International visibility for lightweight research from Chemnitz in Bangkok

TRR 402 DediGrad was introduced into the international scientific exchange during a delegation visit to Bangkok. The visit took place in the context of a Saxon science delegation to King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) and participation in the international RAM’26 – International Workshop and Conference on Robotics, Automation and Manufacturing.

Prof. Dr. Lothar Kroll, spokesperson of TRR 402 DediGrad and holder of the Chair of Lightweight Structures and Plastics Processing at Chemnitz University of Technology, used the visit to highlight current approaches in lightweight research from Chemnitz and the strategic orientation of the newly established Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio 402 DediGrad. The focus was on intelligent production technologies for lightweight polymer structures with load-dedicated 3D grading of the reinforcement architecture.

The stay in Bangkok also provided an opportunity to further strengthen existing cooperation between Chemnitz University of Technology and the Thai partner university. The international collaboration with KMUTNB is of great importance for lightweight research in Chemnitz, particularly with regard to scientific exchange, joint research perspectives and the transfer of research results into industrial application.

A special highlight of the visit was the distinction awarded to Prof. Dr. Lothar Kroll as “Distinguished Person of the Year 2025” by KMUTNB. The award recognises his long-standing commitment to academic cooperation and scientific exchange between Chemnitz University of Technology and the Thai university.

By presenting DediGrad in Thailand, TRR 402 strengthens its international visibility and builds on established scientific relationships. The exchange in Bangkok underlines the relevance of intelligent production technologies and graded lightweight structures in an international context.
