On 24 June 2025, the workshop “Intercultural Communication and Teamwork in Multicultural Research Environments” took place at Chemnitz University of Technology. The event was organised by the Center for Equal Opportunities in Science and Research. A total of seven participants from Chemnitz University of Technology attended the workshop, including two subproject leaders from TRR 402.
Successful collaboration in international research teams today requires not only scientific expertise, but also strong intercultural communication skills. The interactive one-day workshop provided participants with practical tools to better navigate cultural differences, communicate more consciously and foster mutual understanding in diverse academic working environments.
The workshop was led by Claudia Grothoff, a certified intercultural trainer (dgikt) for intercultural competences and communication at German universities and an intercultural learning consultant at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
Participants explored key concepts of intercultural competence, reflected on their own communication styles and discussed strategies for respectful and effective teamwork across cultures. Through real-life case studies, group exercises and moderated discussions, they developed approaches that can be directly transferred to everyday academic and professional practice.
